Summer skin care in South Florida is a different game than anywhere else in the country. We’re not talking about a few hot weeks — we’re talking about nine-plus months of intense UV exposure, humidity that doesn’t quit, and skin that takes a beating whether you’re at the beach, the pool, or just walking to your car in West Palm Beach.

Most patients who come into our West Palm Beach medical aesthetics practice this time of year arrive with the same concerns: congestion, hyperpigmentation that seemed to appear overnight, dehydrated skin that somehow also feels oily, and treatments they’ve been putting off because they heard “you can’t do anything to your skin in the summer.”

Let’s clear that up — and talk about what your skin actually needs right now.

SPF Is Non-Negotiable — But Most People Are Using It Wrong

You already know you need sunscreen. What most people don’t know is that they’re applying about 25% of the amount actually needed for the SPF on the label to work. That SPF 50 you’re using? If you’re applying a thin layer once in the morning, you’re probably getting closer to SPF 10 protection by noon.

What we recommend to our patients at Bespoke Aesthetics: a broad-spectrum mineral SPF (zinc oxide-based) of at least 30, reapplied every 90 minutes if you’re outdoors. If you’re inside most of the day, reapply at least once mid-day. UV rays come through windows — and in Florida, this is not up for debate.

Our favorites right now are tinted mineral formulas. They provide iron oxide protection against visible light too, which is one of the biggest drivers of melasma and hyperpigmentation in all skin tones.

Yes, You Can Still Get Aesthetic Treatments This Summer in West Palm Beach

One of the most persistent myths in medical aesthetics is that summer is a “dead zone” for treatments. It’s not — you just have to be strategic about what you’re doing and when.

Botox and neurotoxins: Zero sun restrictions. Summer is actually one of the busiest times for neuromodulators at our West Palm Beach practice, and there’s no reason to wait. If you’ve been putting off your Botox appointment, book it now.

Dermal filler: Same story. No UV restrictions with filler. The main post-treatment guideline is avoiding prolonged direct heat — hot tubs, saunas — for 24 to 48 hours. That’s it.

Lasers and resurfacing: This is where you need to be thoughtful. Ablative treatments and aggressive resurfacing are better timed for fall in South Florida. But not all laser treatments are off the table. At Bespoke, we adjust protocols for summer skin so patients can keep making progress without the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We’re not telling anyone to pause for five months — we’re tailoring the approach.

Skin tightening and RF treatments: Completely appropriate year-round. Sofwave and Virtue RF have no meaningful sun restrictions, and summer is actually a smart time to start a skin tightening protocol. You’ll be seeing results right as fall arrives.

The Humidity Is Not Helping Your Skin the Way You Think

Patients often assume that humid South Florida summers mean their skin is more hydrated. It’s more complicated than that. High humidity can actually impair your skin’s barrier function, leading to congestion, increased sebum production, and breakouts — even in patients who don’t normally deal with acne-prone skin.

What this means practically: summer is not the time to go heavier on your skincare routine. Swap thick creams for lighter humectant-based moisturizers. Keep your cleansing routine consistent — sweating more means you need to be more diligent, not less. And if you’re not already using a Vitamin C serum every morning, start now. It’s your best antioxidant defense against the free radical damage UV exposure triggers throughout the day.

The Pigment You’re Seeing Now Is From Damage Months Ago

If you’ve noticed new dark spots or uneven skin tone appearing this summer, it’s not just from recent sun exposure. Melanin production is a slow process — what you’re seeing now is often the result of cumulative UV damage from earlier in the year finally surfacing.

This is exactly why we focus so much on prevention and maintenance at Bespoke Aesthetics rather than reactive treatment. We build long-term skin health plans that account for seasonal patterns specific to Palm Beach County — what you do (or don’t do) in summer directly affects what your skin looks like come October.

If pigment is a concern for you, come in for a consultation at our West Palm Beach office. There are treatments we can do right now, and there are treatments we’ll schedule strategically for later in the year. The worst thing to do is wait.

What We’re Recommending for Our West Palm Beach Patients This Summer

For most patients right now, our focus at Bespoke is on:

  • Protection and prevention — tightening up the SPF routine, adding antioxidant serums
  • Maintenance treatments — Botox, filler touch-ups, non-ablative skin quality work
  • Addressing active concerns — rosacea, congestion, mild pigment — with summer-appropriate protocols
  • Planning ahead — mapping out fall treatments so you’re booked and ready to go in September and October

Summer in West Palm Beach doesn’t have to mean putting your skin on pause. It means being intentional about what you’re doing and why.
